Did you know that in order to properly digest and absorb nutrients from the food that you eat you need to be in a relaxed state? Digestion is a complex process that many of us take for granted. But it's absolutely essential to your overall health. Every single cell in your body requires the nutrients that you provide it from food to function optimally. Eating in a stressed state like while on the go or while working + not chewing thoroughly interferes with proper digestion. This will eventually lead to symptoms such as acid reflux, bloating & gas, skin problems, allergies, energy swings, mood disorders, hormonal imbalances and eventually disease.

But there is no need to worry. With a little bit of mindfulness you can Rest to Digest to help get your digestive system running smoothly again!

Keep scrolling to learn how...

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms:

The Digestive System via www.niddk.nih.gov
  • Acid reflux

  • Bloating * Burping * Gas

  • Constipation * Diarrhea

  • Headaches * Migraines

  • Loss of taste for meat

  • Allergies * Sinus congestion

  • Skin problems ~ acne & eczema

  • Bumps on the backs of arms

  • Food sensitivities

  • Chronic fatigue * Brain fog

  • Depression * Anxiety

  • PMS * Hormonal imbalance

  • Autoimmune disorder

  • Etc....

You are likely not properly digesting your food!

Here's how you can "Rest to Digest":

  • Sit down.

Away from your phone & computer.

  • Take 3 deep breaths.

Slowly breathe in for 5 seconds and out for 5 seconds.

  • Take a few moments to notice the senses being stimulated by the food that you are about to enjoy.

Is your mouth watering? Is your stomach grumbling? That's the sensation of gastric juices beginning to flow as you are priming your body for digestion!

  • Now take a bite. Chew slowly & thoroughly >> 20 chomps per bite.

  • Continue to take deep breaths, chew and enjoy your food slowly.

Try to avoid distractions. If you're sharing a meal with friends/family be sure to take breaks in between chatting to breathe and chew each bite before swallowing.

This practice will go a long way in helping to ensure that you are actually digesting and absorbing your nutrients. After-all, You are what you absorb!
